In Colorado, sex crimes include, from most to least serious:

Sexual Assault, which is usually a penetrative act against a person who does not or cannot consent, and can have a penalty of up to 24 years in prison and fine of up to $1 Million, depending on circumstances;

Sexual Assault on a child (commonly known as statutory rape);

Unlawful Sexual Contact, which is non-penetrative contact with a non-consenting person, usually a class 1 misdemeanor, with a maximum penalty of 364 days or a fine of up to $1000, or both;

And Indecent Exposure, which is also usually a class 1 misdemeanor. All of these can lead to a lifetime on a sex offender registry.

Additionally, Public Indecency, is essentially a less severe form of Indecent Exposure, but is a petty offense, with a maximum sentence of 10 days in jail or $300, or both.

If you are charged with any of these crimes, except, perhaps, public indecency, this is a charge that can change your life. Don't sign your rights away without speaking to an attorney first! Contact me with the information below.
